Children in foster care deserve more than protection. They deserve a voice. At ACCT, our attorneys serve as Guardians ad Litem (GALs), ensuring that children in Mid-Missouri foster care have someone standing beside them in court, fighting for their rights and advocating for their futures.
We are seeking passionate, committed attorneys to join us in this mission.
Serving as a Guardian ad Litem is more than a legal role. It’s a chance to change a child’s life. GALs advocate for timely services and stability, making sure children don’t fall through the cracks of an overburdened system.
This Advocacy Includes Ensuring Access To:
At ACCT, you’ll receive the training, resources, and support you need to succeed, whether or not you have prior family law experience.
- Safe and consistent family visitation
- Quality education and school support
- Mental health care and therapy
- Sibling contact and family connections
- Timely permanency decisions
Qualifications
To serve as a GAL with ACCT, attorneys must:
- Hold a current Missouri Bar License
- Complete 8 hours of initial GAL training
- Pass a background check
- Commit to serving 18 to 24 months as a GAL
Family law experience is not required, only the passion and dedication to stand up for children.
Responsibilities
As a Guardian ad Litem, you will:
- Develop a relationship with your assigned child(ren)
- Attend all court hearings and monthly case meetings
- Visit with your assigned child(ren) at least once between hearings
- Advocate for timely services, hearings, and permanency
